The biogeochemistry model is a modified version of the CENTURY model (Metherell et al., 1993) that simulates carbon and nitrogen cycling between plant parts, multiple classes of litter, and three soil organic matter pools.

December 2016, issue 3 2021-02-10 · Biogeochemistry is an interdisciplinary field of study that is concerned with the various processes that affect the makeup of nature, including the earth and the atmosphere. These processes can be chemical, biological, physical, or geological in nature, hence the name biogeochemistry. Biogeochemistry, the study of the behaviour of inorganic chemical elements in biological systems of geologic scope as opposed to organic geochemistry, which is the study of the organic compounds found in geologic materials and meteorites, including those of problematic biological origin.

Biogeochemistry also covers an enormous field of study. It is a systems science – a way of looking at how the Earth’s systems (water, atmosphere, land and living things) interact with each other.

Biogeochemistry publishes original and synthetic papers dealing with biotic controls on the chemistry of the environment, or with the geochemical control of the structure and function of ecosystems. Cycles are considered, either of individual elements or of specific classes of natural or anthropogenic compounds in ecosystems.

"Biogeochemistry is a multidisciplinary field that studies the interactions, over both human and geological timescales, of living things and the earth's chemical cycles…Throughout the book there is a focus on the ways in which humans have intervened in these cycles in recent times."--Reference & Research Book News, October 2013 Biogeochemistry welcomes general research and review articles and short communications. A brief section on news and notes in biogeochemistry may be included in select issues. General papers describing original research usually range from 10 to 30 pages of printed text, including tables, figures, and references (one page of printed text equals about 400 words). The main objective of the course is to learn and practice terrestrial and aquatic field methods. The course deals with basic principles for planning and conducting geoecological investigations. During the course, a major field project will be conducted where a lake and its catchment are studied regarding soil properties, water chemistry and Biogeochemistry of forest soils in different environments (climate, soil type, etc.) Human impacts, such as land-use, management, climate change and nitrogen deposition on biogeochemical processes. We are conducting research in the following areas: Soil carbon stocks and greenhouse gas emissions; Sustainable management of forest soils 7 - Biogeochemistry in Freshwater Wetlands and Lakes.
